ADA ONYEJIKEAda Onyejike, cofounder and Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Child Art Foundation (GCAF) in Nigeria. She works in an environment where girls are not expected to accomplish their goals and dreams, but her sustained vision and hard-work enabled her to positively inspire young people.Girl Child Art foundation (GCAF), an organization she started nine years ago by calling young girls in village schools to learn how to use their creative imaginative ability to enhance their status and life. Inspiring independent and empowered women isn’t an easy task in Nigeria, where women from all walks of life— rich and poor, educated and uneducated, urban and rural—face inequities and violence such as female genital mutilation, child marriage, trafficking, rape, and polygamy. Ada is a seasoned youth developer using all forms of Arts as her area of specialty. With a good experience on Child protection: skills for research and practice, feminist theory and practices and HIV and AIDS advocacy.
Onyejike’s GCAF uses the arts to empower and educate young women in Nigeria where sons are often more highly valued than daughters, and many girls drop out of school at a young age. Performing and visual arts and creative writing programs are employed to build confidence, promote education and social rights, and help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. This program evolved into mentorship young girl’s programs including holiday free training classes on life skills, dance, creative writing and drama classes focusing on global issues. Initially beginning in 2000 as a volunteer operation with no financial assistance, she was able to secure sustainable funding and to her programs to over 200 primary and secondary schools in Nigeria. Onyejike now oversees GCAF centers in three of Nigeria’s states and operates programs in more than 200 communities. Reaching thousands of young women between the ages of 8-25, GCAF receives support from the Nigerian and U.S. governments, as well as from international organizations such as Art for Global Development and the Alliance Française in the field of educational and social development.
In 2005, she founded the GCAF-Campus Initiative (GCI), a subproject of GCAF, to touch the lives of young people by providing a platform for would-be entrepreneurs. The Campus Initiative now effectively operates in over 100 higher institutions in Nigeria as well as Ghana, spreading to other African countries and addresses issues related to human and environmental health, youth development, capacity building, access to information on global issues and participation in creative activities. As a professional artist, she also founded “Peculiar Instincts”, a private advertising agency located in South-east Nigeria. Ada Onyejike is a stand-out individual, a gifted speaker and communicator. She is a focused person deeply involved in the projects she adheres to. She is very reliable, objective and very resolute in her quest for positive change in her community. This has earned her several awards locally and internationally.
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs has also awarded her the 2008 Patricia Blunt Koldyke Fellowship on Social Entrepreneurship a fellowship funded by the Koldyke family to recognize a leading social entrepreneur from any region of the world, working in the economic, education, health, government, development, media, or cultural realm.
HOWARD BLOOMHoward Bloom has been called “the Darwin , Einstein, Newton , and Freud of the 21st Century” by Britain 's Channel 4 TV and "the next Stephen Hawking " by Gear Magazine. Bloom comes from the world of cosmology, theoretical physics, and microbiology. But he did 20 years of fieldwork in the world of business and popular culture, where he tested his hypotheses in the real world.
The result: Bloom generated $28 billion in revenues (more than the gross domestic product of Oman or Luxembourg ) for companies like Cola, Sony, Disney, Pepsi Cola, Coca and Warner Brothers. He accomplished this by taking profits out of the picture and focusing on doing good. He applied the same principle to star-making, helping build the careers of figures like Prince, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Bette Midler, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Billy Idol, Peter Gabriel, David Byrne, John Mellencamp, Queen, Kiss, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Run DMC, and roughly 100 others.
Bloom also plunged into social causes. He helped Launch Farm Aid and Amnesty International in the United States, created two educational programs for the Black community, put together the first public-service radio advertising campaign for solar energy, and founded the leading national music anti-censorship movement in the United States Since 1995, he has founded three international scientific groups, The Group Selection Squad, The International Paleopsychology Project, and The Space Development Steering Committee.
A recent visiting scholar in the Graduate Psychology Department at New York University and a former Core Faculty Member at The Graduate Institute in two fields—Conscious Evolution and Organizational Leadership--Bloom is the author of three books: The Lucifer Principle: A Scientific Expedition Into the Forces of History ("mesmerizing"—The Washington Post), Global Brain: The Evolution of Mass Mind From The Big Bang to the 21st Century ("reassuring and sobering"—The New Yorker), and How I Accidentally Started The Sixties (“a monumental, epic, glorious literary achievement.” Timothy Leary).
Says Joseph Chilton Pearce, author of Evolution's End and The Crack in the Cosmic Egg, "I have finished Howard Bloom's books, The Lucifer Principle and Global Brain, in that order, and am seriously awed, near overwhelmed by the magnitude of what he has done. I never expected to see, in any form, from any sector, such an accomplishment. I doubt there is a stronger intellect than Bloom's on the planet."
