ASIAN METROCITY SUMMIT 2010
Over the past 20 years, urban planners, geographers, and environmentalists, have pointed out the problems associated with sprawl development in cities – from traffic congestion to a spatial mismatch between where people live and where jobs are located to the high fiscal costs of an ever-expanding infrastructure. Solutions focus in the internal urban environment, that is, on ways to create healthy, pedestrian- friendly cities with ample open space and human-scale design. If cities manage to harmonize economic attractiveness, clean environment and quality of life for their citizens, then they will drive growth in their region and be positioned for global competition. Un-Habitat, the UN Human Settlement Program, says that by 2030 there would be two billion new city dwellers. This means even higher demand for energy, housing, food, jobs, investment, and social stability, as well as greater pressure on the environment. “Green” is the general term used to describe efforts to reduce waste and clean up the environment, and mayors see the green movement as a new engine for economic growth and creation.
The Asian Metrocity Summit 2010 will feature local and international speakers/experts who will enlighten us with the latest developments and practices of sustainable developments around the world. The delegates attending the conference will comprise of Mayors, Governors, Municipalities Heads, Government Officials, Developers and Corporate Leaders from Malaysia, S.E. Asia, Mid Asia, Central Asia, Africa and Middle East. We will be expecting between 250 – 300 delegates for the summit. Apart from providing the delegates with useful insights and latest successful practices by our distinguish panel of international speakers, we will also be showcasing selected leading service providers for delegates to connect with to facilitate their respective developments through exhibition booths at the event
We believe that this 3-day program will elevate the respective cities in Malaysia, S.E. Asia, Mid Asia, Central Asia, Africa and Middle East to the next level of expertise, progression and demonstrating our commitment to sustainable development.
We must strongly be committed to our citizen, communities, business partners and stakeholders. In building and planning a city, we must carry out our obligation as a responsible member of society by building environmentally sustainable buildings, engaging in environment rehabilitation business and giving back to our community by providing leisure, social amenities for children and senior citizens, and also by raising awareness about the environment, nurturing the growth and promoting sustainable developments.
With the current technologies and advancements in development, city planners and municipalities would be keen to receive up to date information on these expertise. These will apply to developed cities, to developing cities, and soon to be developed cities.
The topics that will be covered include information & communication technology, sustainable development, transportation system, funding mechanics, green technologies & buildings, tourism development, waste management and disaster mitigation.
